Government Reduces Quarantine Time to 3 Days, PANR: A Fresh Breeze at the Start of 2022

Government Reduces Quarantine Time to 3 Days, PANR: A Fresh Breeze at the Start of 2022

The Indonesian government's decision to reduce the quarantine time for both Indonesian citizens (WNI) and foreign nationals (WNA) from 5 days to 3 days is seen as an indicator of effective handling of the Omicron variant in the country. This reduction only applies to travelers who have received the booster vaccination. "With the issuance of this regulation, we see a clearer path for the recovery of the tourism business. We experienced a similar situation before the Omicron variant spread, in the fourth quarter of 2021, when there was an increase in travel and group tours to various destinations. Market enthusiasm was very high," said AB Sadewa, Corporate Secretary of PT Panorama Sentrawisata Tbk (PANR).

Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, stated in a virtual press conference (February 14) that citizens should not worry excessively. He mentioned that those who have been fully vaccinated and do not have underlying health conditions are still able to travel. "If they've been vaccinated, both doses, and received the booster, and have no comorbidities, they can travel. There's no need to worry excessively," Luhut said.

The government will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation, and if everything is under control, quarantine measures for international travelers (both WNI and WNA) may be fully lifted in April. As is known, the tourism sector is highly dependent on the movement of people, both domestically and internationally. After two years of travel restrictions, the easing of these measures has been a relief for the tourism sector. It is crucial for all parties to encourage people to get the booster vaccine so that the pandemic can end in 2022.

"Booking season for the May Eid holiday has already started, and it will be followed by the school holiday period in the middle of the year. We hope for pent-up demand in both of these periods. This regulation will be a momentum for the company to pursue a recovery towards pre-pandemic performance. This is a breath of fresh air at the beginning of 2022 for the company and the tourism industry in general," concluded Sadewa.
