Supporting Tourism Sector Decarbonization, Panorama Signs the Panorama Green Initiatives Pact

Supporting Tourism Sector Decarbonization, Panorama Signs the Panorama Green Initiatives Pact

Climate change has become a looming global challenge, evidenced by rising temperatures and extreme weather anomalies. Tackling climate change is not solely the government's responsibility—it requires active participation from all sectors, including tourism, which contributes to carbon emissions through business activities.

As one of the key players in Indonesia’s tourism industry, Panorama has committed to reducing the impact of climate change through its Sustainable Tourism policy, particularly by mitigating environmental effects. This commitment was formalized through the signing of the Panorama Green Initiatives Pact, signed collectively by the company’s Directors and Executives in Jakarta.

“Tourism can’t be truly enjoyed if nature, culture, and social harmony are not preserved. Through this Pact, we aim to strengthen our commitment to realizing our vision of being a responsible tourism company that cares for the environment, culture, and communities,” said Budi Tirtawisata, Group CEO of Panorama Group.

The pact is built upon the principles of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), focusing on climate change, inclusive business practices, education for customers and local communities, environmental preservation, and regulatory compliance. A key objective is to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from business operations and encourage industry stakeholders to work collectively toward carbon neutrality.

This initiative received praise from Dr. Frans Teguh, Expert Staff for Sustainable Development and Conservation at Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy:

“The government, through the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, fully supports concrete actions by tourism businesses in implementing sustainable tourism practices, as demonstrated by Panorama’s Green Initiatives Pact. Such commitments help build greater trust and enhance the reputation of Indonesia’s tourism sector,” he said.

As an initial step, Panorama calculated the carbon emissions generated during the pact-signing event. These emissions will be offset through several climate initiatives, including support for the Katingan Mentaya Project in Central Kalimantan and carbon offset through the Lahendong SPE-GHG Project by Pertamina NRE in North Sulawesi. For this effort, Panorama is partnering with Fairatmos, a climate technology company.

Panorama invites all customers, business partners, and stakeholders to participate in this mission to preserve nature, culture, and communities—while upholding inclusive and sustainable business practices.

“We remain fully committed to sustainable tourism. Let’s work together to preserve this planet for the generations to come,” Budi Tirtawisata concluded.
